NEEDS MET IN JULY 2025
7/28/25 Washer and Dryer (purchased, delivered, and installed) for a single mother escaping domestic violence. She has a 3 & 5 year old who both have autism and taking them to the laundromat is difficult because it is loud and they get overstimulated. Referral from Marieke Van Beurden with Help Me Grow San Luis Obispo, CAPSLO ($600).
7/26/25 4 new tires for a man experiencing homelessness who has recently obtained two jobs that require him to use his car. The new tires allow him to keep his jobs and store some of his items. Referral from Ashleigh Markowitz with CAPSLO ($350).
7/25/25 Partial rent for an elderly man who has no family support and is in treatment for cancer. He was unhoused for a long time but recently got into low income senior housing. This will help him get a little bit ahead as he is running out of money for gas and food each month. Referral from Ashley Hahn at Hearst Cancer Resource Center ($544).
7/25/25 Partial rent to prevent eviction for a single mother of 2 who recently moved into a subsidized apartment. Her baby was born in January and she had been out of work since then. She just started working part-time and is trying to catch up on her bills. Referral from Terrie Humphrey, SLO County Public Health ($300).
7/24/25 Microwave, air purifier with filters, 2 area rugs for an elderly woman in low income housing. She is dealing with a worsening health condition and cannot buy these due to increasing medical bills. The microwave will give her easier access to food, the rugs will help her to not slip in her studio, and the air purifier will help ease her heart condition/asthma symptoms. Referral from Ian Kizanis with People’s Self-Help Housing ($232.38).
7/19/25 Payment to a UCLA patient hotel for a single mom with many complex medical and mental health conditions who was required to attend urgent specialty care appointments at UCLA. Referral from Stephanie Punt, Ph.D. Psychotherapist ($438).
7/17/25 Clothing for a student who didn’t have anything to wear for school. Referral from Deanna Martinez at CAPSLO ($200).
7/10/25 Food and toiletries for a single mother of a child with special needs. Referral from LINK SLO ($150).
7/9/25 Food assistance for a single mom. Her rent was taken out twice so she needed food for her family while she waits for the reversal of her double payment. Referral from Catherine Manning from People's Self Help Housing ($300).
7/8/25 Microwave for newly housed woman who is adjusting to life outside of prison and off the streets. The microwave was requested to help her be resourceful and save money on a very limited income. Referral from Ian Kizanis at People’s Self-Help Housing ($83.18).
7/8/25 Full mattress, bedframe, and bedding for a high school student who has been living with their single mom in a motel for 3 months. They recently secured housing and the student was hoping for a bed. Referral from Deanna Martinez at CAPSLO ($293.66).
7/2/25 Breast pump, baby swing, and car seat for young foster youth who is pregnant. She is living on her own and is actively seeking employment. Referral from Lupita Ducharme at Family Care Network ($242.49).

Hi Elaine,
I wanted to follow up on this request and share some positive feedback from this wonderful help. The resident that received the microwave expressed that they are so thankful for the addition to their new apartment. They said that during this time of their life, while they attempt to get back on their feet and face a number of difficulties in doing so, including living on a very limited income, being able to use this simple tool is a massive blessing and is allowing her to eat more regularly and save a lot of money on food. As the social worker here, it reminds me how much we all sometimes take for granted the simple things that make life a little easier. Thank you to Womenade SLO for the continued support with these needs. It makes a big difference!
