☀️ A recap of July...
Wow! August is here. The kids will be headed back to school soon and we'll be settling back into those welcome routines of fall. We're so grateful for the many ways you continue to care for our neighbors in need, as well as your financial generosity. Because of this, Womenade SLO was able to meet every urgent need we received in July. As a 100% volunteer organization, every dollar donated goes directly toward meeting one-time, urgent, basic needs for residents in the city of San Luis Obispo.
In July:
• 14 urgent needs were met
• 31 households donated so we met every need.
• $5,810.53 was given to help SLO residents in need.
• As always, 100% of your donations helped someone in crisis in the city of SLO.
We are proud to announce that Womenade SLO is the recipient of two recent grants, both funded generously through the City of San Luis Obispo.
Through a partnership with the Community Foundation of SLO County, Corazon Latino, and San Luis Coastal Unified School District (SLCUSD), Womenade SLO received $10,000 to support families with students in SLCUSD. We are so honored to be included in this important initiative as part of the City of SLO's DEI High Impact Grant Program.
As part of the City of SLO's Human Services Grant Program, Womenade SLO was recently awarded $6,000 for homelessness prevention. We will be putting these funds to excellent use, as many requests involve rent support to prevent eviction or help with transitions in housing. Thank you SO much, City of SLO, for helping us care for our SLO neighbors in need!

NEEDS MET IN JULY 2026
Car insurance for a single mother who works swing shift jobs and has a 20 minute commute. Referral from Amy Nielsen, CAPSLO ($414.96).
Water bill for a single mom and two children to prevent shut off. The water company was able to forgive some late fees for us. Referral from Jacqueline Vogt-Garcia, Department of Social Services ($268.76).
Partial rent for a single mom of an elementary school student and an infant. She received a 30 day payment notice or eviction for her rent. The church was able to pay the other portion. Referral from Heather Minnoch, SLO City Church ($600).
A couch for a domestic violence surviver and her child who have just received an apartment through HASLO. Referral from a daycare owner ($315.35).
Partial rent for a student who lost their job. They have exhausted other grant options for rent assistance but they have an affordability plan for the coming year. Referral from Lea Scott, Cal Poly ($600).
Baby gate and house-proofing supplies for a mom who recently moved into safe housing with her 3 children. The baby gate will prevent her almost-toddler from climbing stairs and safely separate them from an older special needs child. Referral from Grace Miller, SLO Public Health Department ($78.28).
Rent to prevent eviction and homelessness. Referral from Adriana Cordova, Restorative Partners ($291.90).
Partial rent for a single mom who was sick and fell behind in rent due to lost wages. She is now back to work and two other organizations teamed up with us to get her rent current so that she can make payments going forward. Referral from Carmen Gaitan, Access Central Coast ($600).
Partial deposit for a woman who received housing through a housing voucher program. The payment ensured she did not lose the opportunity to secure stable housing. Referral from Kathryn Rowan, Bryan's House ($600).
Groceries and a gas card for a single mom and her 3 children. She was getting out of a domestic violence environment and needs essential household items. Referral from Carmen Gaitan, Access Central Coast ($491.28).
Partial rent for a single parent struggling to pay rent after a rent increase. She is looking for additional employment to cover the rest. Referral from Mary McCallister, CAPSLO ($350).
Partial rent for a client who had to take time off of work to care for a family member. They have since resumed work and will be able to pay for future rent. Referral from Lea Scott, Cal Poly ($600).
Partial rent for student at immediate risk of losing her housing if she is unable to pay her rent for the month of August. Cal Poly is working to help her develop a sustainable housing stability plan and connect her to the appropriate resources to prevent future housing insecurity. Referral from Cynthia Diaz, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo - Guardian Scholars Program ($600).
