📚 Our August update...
We're in the final days of summer and we’re incredibly grateful for the continued generosity and care you show our neighbors in need. We are starting to see an increase in the need requests coming in as expected with school back in session. Because of your support, Womenade SLO was able to meet every urgent need we received in August.
As a 100% volunteer organization, every dollar donated goes directly toward helping residents of the city of San Luis Obispo with one-time, urgent, basic needs. Thank you for making it possible for us to be there when our neighbors need a little extra help.
In August:
• 10 urgent needs were met
• 30 households donated so we met every need
• $5,079.72 was given to help SLO residents in need
• As always, 100% of your donations helped someone in crisis in the city of SLO
Bring a Friend to Potluck! 🥘💛
Our monthly potluck is always a good time and this month, we’re asking you to bring someone new along! Invite a friend, neighbor, coworker, or anyone who might love being part of a community that looks out for our neighbors in need.
It’s a great way to introduce someone to Womenade SLO, share what we’re all about, and maybe recruit a few new regulars along the way! So bring your favorite dish, bring a friend, and let’s spread the word about the good things happening in our community.
Our monthly potluck will be September 8th from 5:30-7:30pm. Please click HERE to register to attend. It's a chance for you to learn more about what Womenade SLO is doing in the community and meet other volunteers. It's FREE! Bring a friend or two so we can spread the word about our organization!
We're always looking for hosts! Introducing our group to your friends helps gets the word out about the work we do. If you’re interested in hosting a private event or one of our monthly potlucks, please reply to this email and we'll put you on the schedule.
NEEDS MET IN AUGUST 2026
Utility bill for a woman who was injured at work but does not qualify for disability. Referral from Mary McCallister, CAPSLO ($173.45).
Partial rent for a woman who was on disability. It has ended and she has been applying for jobs. Her church, family, and friends contributed so this need could be met. Referral from Jason Sisk-Provencio, United Church of Christ SLO ($600).
Purchased household items for a single parent and family who had to relocate homes due to mold and were unable to take any belongings with them. Their health has been affected and it's been difficult to replace needed items. Referral from Mary McAllister, CAPSLO ($593.07).
Security deposit for a veteran who was previously unhoused. She now has stable section 8 housing but needed the deposit support. Referral from Bibiana Zamora, People's Self-Help Housing ($600).
Car repairs for a single mother with two children who relies on government assistance, child support, and disability income. The car is her only means of transportation. Referral from Kayla Marcinkevicz, ECM Program SLO Public Health. ($600).
Utility payment to help a single father of one get his power turned back on after getting behind on payments. This will make the apartment livable, allow them to stay and cover a basic need as he searches for employment. Referral from Ian Kizanis, People's Self-Help Housing ($611.70).
Gas card for a single mom of 1 child struggling financially and facing challenges with transportation. This will relieve immediate needs so she can focus on pursuing career opportunities. Referral from Hayley Renteria, Pinnacle Treatment Center ($200).
Two months rent to help a patient undergoing active cancer treatment catch up as they are managing multiple out of pocket medical expenses. Referral from Linda Braddy-Argano ($600).
Gas bill for a client who is dealing with a workers' comp injury that is preventing steady work and income. He got behind in his payments and was facing a shut-off of gas, which would affect his daily living situation as well as medical issues. Referral from Mary McCallister, CAPSLO ($501.50).
Grocery gift card for a family who has experienced bouts of homelessness and recently lost EBT benefits. Ensuring the family has reliable access to food is an immediate need and will help remove a significant barrier as the oldest teenager works to successfully graduate and transition to college. Referral from Nelson Zuniga, SLCUSD ($600).
